Wig FAQs
Aren't Wigs Uncomfortable, Itchy, and Hot?
Modern wigs are designed with lightweight, breathable materials that make them much more comfortable to wear than wigs of the past. They also often feature soft, adjustable caps that fit securely without feeling tight or causing discomfort. And with advances in wig technology, there are even wigs available that mimic the look and feel of natural hair, so you can wear them with confidence and comfort. So, don't let outdated perceptions hold you back from trying a wig – with the right wig, you can look and feel your best without sacrificing comfort.
How Long Will My Wig Last?
The answer to that question depends on the type of wig, how often you are wearing it, and how you take care of it. If you wear a synthetic wig every day, and you take care of it, it can last 4-6 months. If you wear it more infrequently, and store it properly, it can last much longer. The key to making a synthetic wig last long is to make sure you use products made specifically for wigs, brush it before you put it away, wash it as needed but not too often, and store it properly.
Which Wig Is Better for Me, a Human Hair or Synthetic Wig?
Each type of wig has its pros and cons. Which type of wig you should wear will depend on your needs and lifestyle among other things. Synthetic wigs are usually affordable, and come pre-styled whereas human hair wigs are usually more expensive and have to be styled frequently just like our own human hair. Both synthetic and human hair wigs are available that look very natural. If you want a style that stays and you don't need to style it yourself, synthetic is the way to go.
Can I Use Hairspray on My Wig?
Synthetic wigs are basically fabric fibers so human hair hairspray doesn't do much for synthetic wigs except create build up. There are however synthetic wig sprays that are made specifically for synthetic wigs and work very well.
How Often Should I Clean My Wig or Extensions?
The answer to how often you should clean your wig really depends on how often you wear it and under what conditions. For example if you wear your wig for 12 hours a day in high temperatures, you may need to wash your wig every 7-10 days. If you however only wear your wig for a couple of hours a week, you can go much longer between washes. How much product you use also plays a factor as product builds up on wigs just like it does on our own hair, so it needs to be cleaned once it starts tangling. If your wig is getting very tangly, has an odor, or looks dull or very frizzy, it's time to wash it.
What Type of Styling Tools Can I Use on My Wig?
All of the wigs on lazygirlapproved.com are heat safe, and styling tools can be used up to 350F. If you purchased your wig elsewhere, refer to the brand or manufacturer's details on hot tool use. If it is heat safe, you can use a flat iron, curling iron, rollers, and other tools as long as they are used within the allowed temperature. If you use a tool that is too hot, it can burn the fibers and permanently damage the wig. A good way to style your wig without hot tools is to rub your hands together to create heat on your hands and then finger comb or manipulate the hair with your hands.
How do I store my wig?
In a perfect world, we would all have a specific space (or a whole closet) just for our wigs, each one with it's own stand with a dust cover! Most of us don't have that luxury, so there are several ways you can store your wigs. There are varying opinions on the best way to store wigs, but a few examples are in shoe boxes lined with tissue paper, in ziploc bags, on a wig tree or shoe rack, and in satin bags. If your wig is wet, the best way to store it until it's dry is to put it on a plastic or wire wig stand, not a styrofoam or core head as it may stretch the wig cap out.
